Dr. John Alfred Carr is a highly experienced trauma and critical care surgeon with over 21 years in general surgery, endoscopy, and trauma care. He began his practice at Clarinda Regional Health Center's surgery center in November of 2024. He is quadruple board-certified in general surgery, thoracic surgery, surgical critical care, and critical care echocardiography.
Dr. Carr received his BS in Chemistry from Indiana University and his MD from Indiana University School of Medicine. He completed a rigorous general surgery residency at Henry Ford Medical Center, including roles as research resident in vascular surgery and chief resident. He went on to complete a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at Rush University and Cook County Hospital and further specialized in cardiac transplant and mechanical support at the University of Chicago. In recent years, Dr. Carr pursued additional education in Theology and Systematic Philosophy, earning dual MAs from Holy Apostles College.
Dr. Carr has extensive training in advanced surgical and endovascular techniques, such as aortic and iliac arterial stenting, thoracic endografting, breast MRI interpretation, and complex vascular trauma management. He holds multiple certifications, including in advanced endovascular procedures and Impella patient management.
