Vision Screenings and Sports Physicals included in your Child Wellness Checks

Clarinda, IA | (March 30, 2018)

The health care professionals at the Clarinda Regional Health Center remind parents and caregivers that now is an excellent time to schedule your child’s wellness check-up. This examination can qualify for required school sports physicals and vision screenings which may be required this summer and fall by your school.

Beginning in 2015, all Iowa students entering kindergarten and the 3rd grade must have a vision screening and a child wellness check is an efficient way of getting this screening.  Annual child wellness checks are usually covered at no-charge by your child’s insurance company, but you should check with your insurance carrier about your specific benefits.

Each visit includes a complete physical exam. At this exam, the health care provider will check the child’s growth and development in order to find or prevent problems. Even if your child is healthy, well-child visits are a good time to focus on your child’s wellness.

This visit will also satisfy the school’s sports physical requirement by assessing the athlete’s general health, his or her current fitness level, will assess any existing injury or any condition that might increase the athlete’s risk of injury.
