Physical Therapy treatment often consists of exercises and modalities for strengthening and healing of injuries or pain in all areas of the body such as the shoulder, back, hips, knees and feet. Therapists also work with patients to improve their balance and walking abilities. Aquatic Therapy is available on an Out-Patient basis and is done in the pool at the Clarinda Lied Center.

Occupational Therapy treatment is provided for injuries and pain in the hands, wrists, elbows and shoulders. Occupational Therapists conduct evaluations to improve ergonomic practices within the workplace. The OT will also make recommendations for home safety modifications, as well as adaptive equipment to improve safety and independence with activities of daily living such as dressing and bathing.

Speech Therapy treatment includes assessing, diagnosing, treating, and helping prevent disorders related to speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, swallowing, and fluency. Speech, language, and swallowing difficulties can result from a variety of causes including stroke, brain injury or deterioration, developmental delays or disorders, learning disabilities, cerebral palsy, cleft palate, voice pathology, mental retardation, hearing loss, or emotional problems. Our speech therapist will develop an individualized plan of care, tailored to each patient’s needs.

The Rehabilitation Department is located in the south end of the hospital. Appointments for the PT/OT Department are scheduled between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm, Monday thru Friday. The Speech Therapist is available on Monday, Wednesday and Friday by appointment.
