(Clarinda, IA): Clarinda Regional Health Center (CRHC) is committed to offering the most advanced health care to our patients. Because of that commitment, our patients now have access to the very latest technology in 3D mammography, which is being called the single greatest break-through in breast cancer detection in 30 years.
CRHC recently completed installation and has received approval from the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) to screen patients with the Selenia Dimensions system. The Genius 3D Mammography system, manufactured by Hologic, boasts a 5-year breast cancer survival rate of nearly 100 percent when early detection is made and also reduces the number of unnecessary callbacks by as much as 40 percent.
CRHC Radiology Manager Greg Jones says, “A Genius exam includes both 2D and 3D images. During the 3D portion of the exam, an X-ray arm sweeps in a slight arc over the breast, taking mulitiple images.” Jones goes on to say, “The images are converted into a stack of thin layers, allowing the radiologist to review the breast tissue one layer at a time. A low dose Genius 3D Mammography exam is performed in less than a four second scan time for greater patient comfort.”
According to Hologic, three-dimensional mammograms are 41 percent more likely to detect invasive breast cancer than traditional two-dimensional mammograms and 29 percent more likely to detect all other types of breast cancers.
